Congratulations to Dr. Domenic Izzo of Berks Eye Physicians and Surgeons on winning the 2017 Berks County People’s Choice Award! Dr. Izzo is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vision correction refractive surgery as well as cataract and intraocular lens implant (IOL) surgery. Dr. Izzo has performed over 20,000 cataract and intraocular lens implant procedures, and was one of the first ophthalmologists in Berks County to perform small incision, no-stitch cataract surgery.
We are very proud to announce that our own Dr. Jacquelyn M. Horst was honored by the Berks County Optometric Society as:
Young Optometrist of the Year
This is an award in recognition of her outstanding leadership and service to her profession and the visual welfare of the public. Dr. Horst is a member of the American Optometric Association, Pennsylvania Optometric Association, and she currently serves as treasurer of the Berks County Optometric Society.
Dr. Horst is an optometrist who provides primary eye care to patients of all ages, specializing in eye glasses and contact lenses. She has experience with advanced contact lens fits including multi-focal contact lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, corneal refractive therapy, and hybrid contact lenses.
Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer, either through their own personal battle or through the battle of someone they love, and this disease has taken too much from too many. In 2016, there will be an estimated 1,685,210 new cancer cases diagnosed and 595,690 cancer deaths in the US, according to research by the American Cancer Society. This year has been Berks Eye Physicians and Surgeons 3rd year participating in Relay For Life of Western Berks. We participate because we know we are making a difference in the fight to end cancer by raising funds and cancer awareness. Our event was Friday, June 17, 2016 at Wilson West High school. It is a 24 hour event to signify the struggle of a Cancer patient. Our team consisted of 18 team members and has raised a total of $7801.43 so far. Berks Eye sponsors Relay For Life in support of our employees that have fought and/or continue to fight Cancer. Many of our staff Relay in support or memory of family/friends touched by this terrible disease. We will continue to fundraise until September 1, 2016. After that, a new Relay year starts!

PRESIDENTIAL AWARD GIVEN TO PUBLIC SERVICE PROGRAM THANKS TO EFFORTS BY BERKS EYE PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS LTD. OPHTHALMOLOGISTS
Work to restore seniors’ vision by Drs. Domenic C. Izzo Jr., Peter D. Calder, and Francisco L. Tellez gain EyeCare America a Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama.
[Wyomissing, PA] – November 20, 2015 – The doctors of Berks Eye Physicians and Surgeons, LTD volunteer with EyeCare America to restore vision for seniors. Thanks to the sight-saving contributions of these dedicated volunteers, the national public service program has just received the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
EyeCare America, a program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, is one of the largest public service programs in American medicine. In Pennsylvania, over the last 30 years, the program has helped more than 34,350 people obtain access to medical eye care and resources through 367 volunteer ophthalmologists.
The program was recently recognized by the President’s Volunteer Service Award which is the premier volunteer awards program, encouraging citizens to live a life of service through presidential gratitude and national recognition.
“Thank you for helping to address the most pressing needs in your community and our country,” wrote President Obama in a letter that accompanied the Award. “Your volunteer service demonstrates the kind of commitment to your community that moves America a step closer to its great promise.”
“Losing vision can be devastating, but some seniors may think it’s inevitable due to their age and suffer in silence rather than seeking help,” said Dr. Domenic C. Izzo, Jr. “Today, we are very fortunate to have several treatments to help stop and even restore vision loss for older Americans”, noted Dr. Francisco L. Tellez. Dr. Peter D. Calder of Berks Eye Physicians and Surgeons LTD added, “It’s an honor to be part of a national program that helps make it so much easier for seniors to access these treatments, and I’m pleased that our work has helped gain recognition of EyeCare America from the President.”
