Diabetic Eye Care Reading PA

Diabetes threatens the health of numerous organs and systems of the body, including the eyes and visual system. It raises the risk of serious eye problems that can lead to blindness. One of the most prominent vision-related threats to people with diabetes is diabetic retinopathy, which damages the small blood vessels in the retina. The disease can cause the retina to grow weak, abnormal blood vessels that leak blood and fluid; it can also trigger the growth of scar tissue in the eye.

Routine eye exams can catch problems like diabetic retinopathy in their early stages and keep them at bay. The team at Berks Eye Physicians and Surgeons encourages people with diabetes to be diligent about scheduling regular eye exams to stay ahead of vision problems. Clear Vision After Cataracts With Advanced Iols

Berks Eye Physicians & Surgeons, Ltd.

Clear Vision After Cataracts With Advanced IolsA cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens. To treat cataracts, surgeons remove the lens and replace it with an artificial lens, which restores clear vision. The specific type of artificial lens implant used is determined preoperatively, based on a discussion between surgeon and patient.

The standard type of IOL placed during surgery is the monofocal IOL, which is typically covered by Medicare insurance. This lens restores clear vision at a single fixed distance. Many patients with monofocal IOLs opt for the IOL to correct distance vision, and then they wear reading glasses to see clearly while performing up-close tasks like sending a text message or checking a watch.

The team at Berks Eye Physicians and Surgeons understands that although monofocal IOLs are certainly effective, they are not the ideal choice for every patient. We know that our patients are diverse and have unique vision needs; therefore, we offer several types of IOLs to suit different needs and goals.
