Dr. SoudersDr. Souders is a Reading native whose family name has been synonymous with quality eye care since the early 1900s. A graduate of Reading High School, Haverford College, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he joined his father, Benjamin Souders, M.D., in 1969 to practice general ophthalmology.

He has served as Clinical Instructor in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, Boston and the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania. He has been Editor-in-Chief of Transactions, the Journal of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, and received the Academy's Distinguished Service Award in 1996.

Dr. Souders is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the Berks County Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology. He is on the staff of the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

A dedicated father of two daughters, Dr. Souders is an active member of the Reading Music Foundation, the Star Series, and the Friends Chamber Music of Reading. In addition to music, he enjoys photography, history, literature, traveling and his grandchildren.



Dr. IzzoA native of Reading, PA, Dr. Izzo joined Berks Eye Physicians & Surgeons in 1986. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, where he was a Magna Cum Laude graduate, and earned his medical degree at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. Following an internship at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, he received his specialty training in ophthalmology at Hahnemann University where he served his residency.

Dr. Izzo is Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Berks County Medical Society.

Dr. Izzo specializes in cataract and intra-ocular lens implant surgery, and was one of the first ophthalmologists to perform small incision, no stitch cataract surgery in Berks County. He is on staff at Berkshire Eye Surgery Center, The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, and Exeter Surgery Center.

He enjoys running, golf, tennis, skiing, and other activities and is the proud father of three young sons. He and his wife, Linda, share many interests with family and friends in the Reading area.



Dr. CalderDr. Calder joined the team of Berks Eye Physicians & Surgeons in October 1993. Born in Reading and raised in Central Pennsylvania, Dr. Calder attended Penn State, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Upon receiving his medical degree from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Dr. Calder completed his residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center, New York.

In addition to receiving Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha (National Medical Honor Society) and other academic honors, Dr. Calder is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Medical Association, the Berks County Medical Society, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. He was selected as an Outstanding Young American in 1998.

Prior to joining Berks Eye Physicians & Surgeons, Ltd., Dr. Calder served in the United States Navy as the Attending Ophthalmologist at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital, in Great Lakes, Illinois. He is currently on staff at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, the Exeter Surgery Center, and the Berkshire Eye Surgery Center. He specializes in the advanced "no-stitch, no-patch" cataract surgery and medical glaucoma treatment.

Dr. Calder, his wife Sharon (a nurse practitioner in West Reading) and their son all enjoy traveling. They reside in Mohnton.


Dr. TellezDr. Tellez joined Berks Eye Physicians & Surgeons in 1997. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Cornell University, he received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in New York City. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New Hyde Park, New York. He received specialty fellowship training in glaucoma at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Tellez is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and Berks County Medical Society.

Dr. Tellez has strong skills in small incision cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology. He specializes in all aspects of medical and surgical glaucoma management.

Born in Madrid, Spain, Dr. Tellez speaks fluent Spanish in addition to English. He is a warm, caring individual whose experience and friendly personality make him a great asset to our practice. He, his wife Diane, and their daughter reside in Wyomissing. 


Dr. Brendon J. Weaver received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Elizabethtown College in May of 1999, with a minor in Chemistry and a concentration in pre-med.  He obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in May of 2003.  He received numerous scholarships as an optometry student for his academic and clinical achievements.  He represented his school at national optometry meetings as an American Optometric Student Association Trustee.  He is
currently a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa optometric honor society, the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Pennsylvania Optometric Association (POA), the Berks County Optometric Society (BCOS) and the Cornea and Contact Lens Section of the AOA.

Prior to joining Berks Eye, Dr. Weaver worked in Massachusetts at State Street Eye Health Associates and Massachusetts Eye Care Associates as a contact lens specialist.  He also trained at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and the Veteran's Association hospital in Lowell, MA to study ocular disease.

Dr. Weaver conducts emergency, post-operative cataract surgery, refractive and routine eye examinations, while specializing in contact lens fittings.  He is also a regular contributor to The Reading Eagle's supplement The Berks Encore, writing articles about eye care and vision-related issues.  His articles are available online at http://askdrweaver.blogspot.com/

Dr. Weaver resides with his wife, Laura, in Sinking Spring, PA. He enjoys a wide variety of activities, including playing guitar, golf,
skiing, writing, travel and music performances.
